The Open Window

The Open Window

August 2008

July 31st marked one year since our arrival back in Canada from our ministry as dorm parents

at BFA and our summer of 2007 ADVENTURE across Russia -

seeing that vast country almost from end to end.

Our “romantic-expectation-bubble” was quickly popped by FEAR as we had

trouble with the police, but as well with a sense of REFUGE, whenever we visited

with believers in various cities.

Panic & PuzzlePanic Puzzles

During our final days in Russia, I remarked to Dave that, “I didn’t know if I could

live there again”. …Two days back in Canada and I admitted that I did not want

to return to Far East Russia - a goal which we had earlier agreed on working

toward. Whenever I thought of it, I felt sick and panicked .

Dave says, “I felt like I’d had all the pieces of my ‘life’s puzzle’ just about put

together when Barb threw it all back into the box, added two more puzzles to it

and shook the whole thing up!”

We waited and prayed for PEACE and UNITY.

Finally, by January, I felt the panic ease; talking about returning to FER became

comfortable. The idea of ministry again with our Russian friends and SEND

teammates became, by God’s work in my heart, EXCITING.

Closed Door…

Two weeks later our SEND FER Area Director informed us that, due to the new

VISA laws, and the likely impossibility of obtaining Residency Permits,

the Far East Russia Field would be, very likely closing.

…Open Window

However, less than one month later, we received an invitation to participate in a

new work in CHURCH PLANTING in UKRAINE from the Area Director of

SEND Ukraine!

…Say What ?

We want to tell you more:

The details of …the what?…the when?…the how?

We invite your questions, responses and requests for us

to come and share (talk, dialogue, enlighten, teach, preach, prophesy) with you,

your small group or your church about what God is doing in UKRAINE and what

we believe He is leading us into. We look forward to hearing from you!

News from the road

Okay, forget that xanga site - it's not working.  Instead, Joel is trying to get this one going:  daveandbarbsJOYride.blogspot.com
Try that, and pray that it gets working for him and for us.  thanks for praying for us.

Well... I just re-read that.  And I am not that glad.  I am also sad.  This is the end of a favorite chapter of our lives.  It's hard to imagine at this turning of the page, how it can ever be as good again.  But, we are actually only in the introduction.  Can you imagine that?  All this struggle, joy, pain, learning, relating...  is only the beginning of the story.  And even at the end of our lives, we will just be beginning.  And if I think this was my favorite chapter - the one that opens with a new born baby, and ends with a cap being flung in the air - the real Chapter One, that goes on ten thousand years - is going to make us wonder what we were thinking.  Ah.  And so, yes, there is joy ahead.  Thanks to my God and Saviour, for writing us into the Book.

the Empty Nest

Once again, the nest is empty.  A few "feathers" float around as reminders that there were chicks here...  But they flapped their almost-developed wings and flew away.
It's okay - I'm glad.  This is how it must be.  And in less than a week, our own baby chick will sail away out of our nest.  Ouch.  But again, Papa Stork and I are glad - all is as it should be.  You all go with God, who keeps you in His hand.
I've been reading 1 Thess. 1, and realized that, if you substitute the words "brothers" for "Storch sisters"and Macedonia and Achaia for "Kandern and Holzen", it could have been (and likely was) written just for you.
